Bath smelting furnace
Smelting and converting of copper with top submerged lance
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
An alternative to flash smelting is bath smelting where the raw materials are introduced into a molten bath together with flux and reducing agents via the furnace roof. The resulting liquid “copper matte“ with a copper content of 55 - 60 % mainly from Cu2S is drawn from the bath and further processed. Bath smelting furnaces are predominantly used for primary copper processing.
